SHAWANO, WI- A few parents once again addressed the Shawano School Board days after a decision was made to require masks for students and staff in the district for the next month.
Nick Klezcka began his public comments by reading the Preamble of the US Constitution and turned some questions to the Shawano School Board.
“No public official has the authority to mandate a mask, none, none of these up here have that right, none of them.”
He then made a request to have all board members and all public servants who participate in these acts to have charges be brought upon of treason against the community. At that point, Board President Michael Sleeper banged his gavel to indicate the end of Klezcka’s allotted time.
“I will speak up louder. We have people here giving me their minutes. I have a right, I have a freedom and you guys need to be held accountable.”
Multiple people told school board president Michael Sleeper that they give their minutes to Nick.
“Let him speak”, “you serve us” and “we want to hear what he has to say” could be heard throughout the auditorium.
Klezcka’s speaking was drowned out on multiple occasions by Sleeper banging his gavel multiple times in attempt to get him to stop.
“You are out of order, you need to stop” Sleeper shouted as he continued to bang his gavel.
Klezcka just got louder and faced the board. “Stop, you have the right to uphold what you did, you are a public official, you have the right to uphold your duty, do it.”
A Shawano Police officer walked up to Klezcka to help keep order.
“Bieber is okay with this, I talked to him, you can call him,” Kelzcka told the officer. “Bruce Milivitz, Mayor of Shawano, I talked to him today and he is very proud of what I have to say.”
Klecza was then allowed to continue as multiple people yielded their time. “This mask mandate goes much deeper than what these servants claim to be just another two week mask wearing circus party.”
He then when on to talk about action that he plans on taking.
“I and many others will be filing class action against any and all participants of any of those above measures. Every single one of you guys, I have talked to our community and I have many people that are going to be filing suit with me,” Kleczka said. “All public servants have the duty to uphold the well being of the citizens, especially innocent children guys. You guys are overthrowing our constitution, you guys are automatically off the board and I and many others put you on notice. This shows how far we have gone from our true blueprint.”
Another parent to speak up was Nathan Powell. He started by explaining his direct connection to the COVID-19 virus.
“I lost one of my friends to COVID complications and the next day I lost my mom to COVID complications, so I am not insensitive to how drastic this can be. At what point to we stop using the word COVID has a fear tactic? Are we going to wear masks until the next generations graduate?”
Powell also addressed last Friday’s meeting saying that many did not get the chance to hear what was going on because the meeting was not streamed.
It was explained to TCHDailynews.com that there were technical problems with the recording.
“Is it too hard to do a Facebook live or have someone record it,” Powell asked?
He then stated some stats explaining that .006 percent who are infected. He said recent numbers showed that only 1.5 percent infected in the Shawano School District.
Later in the meeting during the COVID update, Shawano School Superintendent Randi Anderson told the board that they currently have 27 students that out with COVID along with 5 staff members. She was asked if that was a decrease from last week and she said it was.
Board member Mike Musloff asked how many subs the district currently has but Anderson said the HR Director would have that information. “I can tell you that we are having an extremely difficult time filling our teaching staff that are out, and not all five are teachers, that also includes support staff.
Powell closed by addressing something that he noticed while speaking.
“I realize that 50 percent of you up here are not wearing masks, so how are you going to sit there and mandate our children to wear them.”
No action or further discussion was taken by the board.
