RED SPRINGS, WI-A man who was shot by a Shawano County Sheriff’s Deputy is facing charges, and the officer involved has been identified.
57-year-old Gary A. Cameron of Gresham has been charged with a third OWI offense, operating a firearm while intoxicated and threatening a law enforcement officer with a dangerous weapon.
The charges stem from an incident after a vehicle crash on Upper Red Lake Road near Gresham on July 1st.
Shawano County Sheriff Deputy Brady Sinotte responded to the scene. According to the complaint, Deputy Sinotte approached the vehicle and Cameron had a gun in his possession. Sinotte directed Cameron to put the gun down, but he did not. The complaint also states that Cameron put the gun to his head and told Deputy Sinotte to shoot him after referencing the loss of his 21-year-old son. According to the complaint, Cameron allegedly pointed the firearm out the passenger side window at Deputy Sinotte and that is when Sinotte fired his weapon, striking Cameron in the elbow, according to the complaint.
The complaint states that Cameron admitted to authorities that he has been drinking prior to the incident.
Cameron was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from the hospital. Deputy Sinotte has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
