SHAWANO, WI- It is the official kick-off to summer, it is long overdue. “All of us are ready to celebrate and be around people again.”
Sun Drop Dayz kicks off Friday. Last year, the festival was canceled due to COVID-19, and organizers say this year will be better than ever.
New this year is the Menominee Indian Tribe Traditional Singing and Dancing at the ball diamond on the corner of Elizabeth and Lincoln.
Organizers of the Sun Drop Dayz say it will be like a pow-wow. “You know, our heritage around here is centered around the Menominee people,” said Board member Kevin Barkow. “We felt it would be a great addition.”
That will take place Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The only thing that will affect the new event is the weather.
“Their attire is handmade and there is so much time and money put into these outfits that we don’t want to see them get ruined in the rain.”
Organizers say mother nature needs to learn to love Sun Drop Dayz.
“Weather has not been on our side,” Barkow said. “We almost not only got rained out one year, but we almost got a tornado one year.”
Along with food and fun is plenty of musical entertainment including Trav Ace and the Generators on Friday and Chad Przblyski & The Polka Rhythms, Grand Union, and Johnny Wad on Saturday.
Sun Drop Dayz was created to be the start of summer while the Shawano County Fair marks the end.
The sales of the Sun Drop soda go to Big Brothers Big Sisters and Forget Me Not. The sales of the beer go to five randomly picked organizations. This year, they are Toys for Tots, Leadership Shawano County, Backback Blessings of Bonduel, The Fresh Project, and the Divine Savior Lutheran Food Pantry.
The festival is held at the North end of Memorial Park on Elizabeth Street.
