TOWN OF ANIWA, WI- Shawano County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal crash that took place in the Town of Aniwa on Wednesday morning. The victim has been identified as a 17-year-old Antigo High School student, but his name has not yet been released by law enforcement.
Officials investigating say they learned that the 17-year-old was trying to turn onto Highway 45 from a driveway when it was struck on the driver’s side by another vehicle. The vehicle was operated by a 56-year-old Shawano County woman.
“We are not waiting on any kind of test results or anything like that, ” said Shawano County Sheriff Adam Bieber. “We don’t often have crashes like this on Highway 45.”
Bieber says one reason for withholding the name is being sensitive to the fact that he was a high school student.
“We are allowing time for that school to prepare for that.”
Dr. Julie Sprauge, Antigo School District Superintendent says that is what they have been doing in their building.
Bieber says he sees this situation as an unfortunate accident but said it is always good to drive carefully.
“It is just a reminder to pay attention and check your mirrors.”
