Elroy Donald Malueg was born on March 15, 1934 at home in the Town of Pella, Shawano County, to Ferdinand and Alma (Pankow) Malueg Sr. He grew up in the Caroline area and attended school in Caroline. Elroy entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served from 1954 to 1957. He was united in marriage on May 18, 1968 to Janice M. Rickert at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mattoon, and the couple settled in Caroline.
Elroy did road construction for several years with F.F. Mengel Company out of Custer, Wisconsin. Then he drove milk truck for close to 15 years with F.R. Buss Cheese Factory in Caroline. Elroy also worked for some years at Hatley Veneer Mill, until retiring in 2000.
Elroy was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Caroline, where he actively served for many years as an usher. He was proud to be a Life Member of the American Legion Post #456 of Caroline. In his early days, Elroy and Janice enjoyed bowling on several different area teams. He also enjoyed listening to polka music and watching Caroline Cougar baseball. Elroy always loved the outdoors whether it was fishing or hunting. He liked deer and squirrel hunting, and especially liked fishing with his old cane pole. Elroy caught lots of bass, carp, and bullheads; and he would smoke most of them. He will be remembered most for his wonderful sense of humor and his contagious smile.
