MADISON, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network) – On the floor of the state Senate Thursday, Democrats were angry with Republicans not wearing masks, in the face of coronavirus concerns. Milwaukee area Republican Alberta Darling was wearing a mask.
“And I chose to wear a mask today because many of you feel very strongly about it, and I wanted to respect your opinion. But I will not take on other members of my caucus who choose not to wear a mask.”
Madison Democrat Senator Kelda Roys asked her to colleagues mask up. “Please wear a mask out of respect. Out of human decency, for the others who are here who you don’t know our history. For our families.”
Irma Republican Mary Felzkowski defended her decision to not mask up. “I personally have had the coronavirus. I cannot get it again for 90 days according to the doctor nor give it. There are other reasons I do not wear a mask. HIPPA protects me from having to explain myself.”
The issue came to a head after Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu announced earlier in the week that Senators will no longer be able to attend floor sessions or committee hearings via ZOOM.
