SHAWANO, WI- Shawano Community High School’s annual musical performance is a one-time shot this year. COVID-19 restrictions resulted in the musical, “A Grand Night For Singing” being a virtual performance. On Thursday, the performance will be streamed live to homes all around the world. The production will then be made available for a few days on-demand.
“We will have people from all over the world watching,” said Director Alex Konen.
This year’s show will have a different look with the actors wearing masks and staying socially distanced from one another. “The masks we are wearing are called singing masks,” said cast member Riley Sigfried. “They have two bars with keeping them more away from your face when you are singing”, Senior cast member Megan Hermann said.
The pit orchestra is smaller in size, more spread out and everyone is wearing masks. Those masks are also different. “They have a hole in them and a flap that covers the hole when you are not playing,” said Nathan Edwards.
Students got a chance to practice some new skills like camera movement and camera shots.
A Grand Night For Singing is all about the different stages of love. “It is really different than other shows that we have done, it’s 31 songs, one after another and full of music,” Sigfried said.
“It is one show, one chance to get it right,” Choir Director Matthew Pfantz said.”
The show will be streamed live at 7:00 pm on Thursday and will be available for on-demand viewing until February 14th.
Tickets are $12.00 and can be purchased at www.shawanotheater.anywhereseat.com.
