
Elmer J. Block, age 91, of Tigerton passed away Monday, February 8, 2021 at Homme Home of Wittenberg.
Elmer Joseph Block was born on April 5, 1929 in Tigerton to Hugo and Madeline (Bergean) Block. He was united in marriage on May 25, 1957 to Sylvia A. Malueg at Zion Lutheran Church in Caroline. The couple lived in the Tigerton area for many years and they were blessed with three children. In June of 1949, Elmer started at Tigerton Lumber Company and was employed with the mill for close to 40 years. He worked mainly on the green transfer chain line and retired in May of 1988.
Elmer was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton. In his younger days, he enjoyed bowling on several area leagues, and playing baseball and softball. Elmer was honored to play on one of Tigerton’s past BABA Championship Teams. He also watched baseball on television whenever possible. Elmer was a huge New York Yankee’s fan for many years and later in life also followed the Milwaukee Brewers. He liked spending time outdoors; especially trout fishing and gun hunting for rabbits, squirrels, or deer. In recent years at Homme, he participated in lots of activities and loved to play Bingo.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Block of New London and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Block of Clintonville. There are five grandchildren: Paul Verstoppen, Ryan (Kristen) Block, Dustin Block, Austin Block, and Christa Block. There are four great grandchildren: Evan, Aurora, Finnegan, and Beau. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; a dear friend Sylvia; one daughter, Jean Verstoppen; one sister, Anita (Wallace) Kielblock; and two brothers, Edward (Maxine) Block and Roland “Turk” (Clarice) Block.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 12th at 3:00 PM at Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Tigerton. Rev. Dean Suehring will officiate and inurnment will be at a later date at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Visitation will be on Friday from 1:00 PM until time of service at the funeral home.
