MADISON, WI- (Wisconsin Radio Network) – The Wisconsin Badgers showed why they are ranked number-seven in the country while whipping Eastern Illinois in the season opener 77-67 Wednesday night.
The game wasn’t as close as the score indicates.
Wisconsin led at half 43-20, with a lot of the damage done by freshmen Ben Carlson and Jonathan Davis.
They combined for 16 points in that first half. Steady senior Nate Reuvers showed off the benefit of an off-season conditioning program, hitting two-of-three 3-pointers while scoring 18 points, with nine rebounds and five blocked shots.
Seven players scored at least six points for coach Greg Gard. Wisconsin led 66-48 with less than eight minutes left in the game.
The Badgers host Arkansas-Pine Bluff Friday night.
