SHAWANO, WI – The Shawano Police Department is encouraging people to comply with Governor Ever’s Mask Mandate that goes into effect starting Saturday, but tickets will not be issued to people who don’t.
“We will not be issuing citations, but we ask that people follow the Governor’s order,” Shawano Police Chief Dan Mauel said. “We also ask that people do not call dispatch with mask complaints.”
Mauel said he expects people in the City of Shawano to exercise their judgement when it comes to mask wearing, but he says businesses may have their protocol in place which should be respected.
“It is no different than when they refuse business for people not wearing shoes or shirts,” he said. They have the right to refuse service if someone is not wearing a mask.”
Mauel says dispatch did receive multiple calls when the Governor’s first COVID-19 related order, “Safer At Home” was being enforced.
