SHAWANO, WI – The Shawano County Fair is getting a green light from the Fair Board.
In a Board meeting Monday night, it was decided, as of June 15 they we will be going forward with the Shawano County fair as planned.
“We went through everything and we will not dumb it down,” Brad Luepke of the Fair Board said. “We will keep it as normal as possible.
He says soon they will be putting a plan in place of how to run it.
“We are working with the IAFE, our Carnival, and Local officials on what we can and can’t do amid COVID-19 and will put procedures in place to run it as safely and effectively as possible.”
Luepke says they have a lot of non-profits and kids who benefit from the fair.
“It will be a process to get it all done, but we feel we owe it to Shawano County, the Non-Profits who’s bigger fundraiser every year is the Fair, and the kids showing animals and exhibits to at least try to give you all the fair you deserve, and continue the tradition of being the World’s Fair.”
One change that is being made for sure is that there will not be any Bingo at the Fair.
“That does not make or break a fair, so we should be okay there.”
Luepke says they will also try to highlight local bands this year.
“We keep monitoring it and we will keep adjusting as we need to.”
He says they will be calling our vendors and meeting with our non profits organizations in the upcoming weeks to get their feelings toward opening their stands for the fair.
“Safety is our prime concern, and we want to talk with all parties involved in this process.”
Luepke says Shawano County has an advantage over some of the other area fairs due to the fact that they have a racetrack and it has already been running for a couple of weeks.
He says one question that remains is how or if the commercial building will open.
He says rides, games and fireworks over the fair are also a go for now.
“We have talked to our carnival company and they are working with us, and we are making every attempt to have as many rides as we possibly can.”
The Shawano County Fair will run September 2nd through the 7th.
