SHAWANO, WI -Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department received word Tuesday that there are less than 5 COVID-19 cases associated with a
business in Shawano County.
All positive cases associated with the business are residents of a different county. All individuals were connected to positive
cases in other counties. Therefore, these individuals were already in quarantine before testing took place and will continue to stay in quarantine or isolation until
released.
Shawano-Menominee County Health Officer Vicki Dantoin said the reason they are not releasing the name is out of respect for the business.
“It is not a high risk scenario at this time,” Dantoin said. If there was a larger concern about the public’s health or some place that we feel a lot of people would be frequenting, we would release the name.
Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department has been working with the business. The business has been taking adequate and appropriate steps to
protect their employees, including precautions such as, following quarantine recommendations, sanitizing common areas, screening employees, practicing physical distancing, allowing use of protective masks, and advocating for frequent handwashing and all other necessary steps to avoid spread of the virus.
Dantoin said there is no reason that members of the general public should be concerned that it is there place of work.
“All of the employees of the business have been informed so we are not keeping secrets from those directly involved.”
The business said they will disclose their name if the situation escalates. The health department and the business will continue to monitor the situation and
implement isolation and quarantine as needed. If more cases are identified, the health department and business will take measures necessary to minimize the
risk to other employees and members of the community.
Dantoin said the positive cases will be reflected in the numbers of the county that the employees reside in and these particular cases will not be reflected in Shawano County numbers.
“The best thing I can tell people is no matter what business you are going to, you should be taking the same percautions. The best way to protect yourself is stay home and if you must go out, take the proper percautions.
