KESHENA, WI – Menominee Tribal Police took a male into custody after he lead law enforcement on a lengthy vehicle and foot pursuit Monday afternoon.
A Menominee Tribal Highway Safety Officer attempted a traffic stop just before 3:00 p.m. The vehicle was pulled over for a traffic violation but took off from the scene shortly after.
The pursuit went onto County Highway VV and along Long Lake Road to Long Marsh Road before turning onto Rushes Lake Road. Deputies used spike strips to attempt to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle drove over the spikes and continued, striking a Menominee County Sheriff Deputies squad car before heading down a logging road.
Officials say the man eventually jumped out of his moving vehicle and fled on foot. The man then went into a wetland area and was carrying a black backpack, according to officers. It was also believed that they saw him with a handgun as he continued to flea, not obeying officers orders, according to officers.
Eventually, Sheriff officials requested mutual aid from the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 unit.
The male was taken into custody after a pursuit that lasted for nearly 4 hours. He was arrested in a wooded area between Rushes Lake Road and Long Corduroy Road, was treated for exposure by Tribal EMS and then transported to the hospital and later booked in Menominee Tribal Jail.
Officers reported finding a revolver, drugs and a digital scale in the vehicle.
Assisting the Tribal Police Department was the Menominee Tribal Conservation Department, Gillett Police, Oconto County Sheriffs’ Department the Wisconsin State Patrol and Keshena Fire.
