SHAWANO, WI – Yellow tape is wrapped around playgrounds throughout the city of Shawano.
Shawano City Clerk Lesley Nemitz says that is because playground equipment is closed.
“No municipality wants to tell people to not play in our parks, however, that was part of the order so all of our playgrounds are closed.”
Nemitz says it should not stop people from going outdoors, however.
“The parks are still open for walking, biking, hiking and those types of things, but the actual equipment has been taped off.”
According to the Governor’s orders, individuals may not engage in team or contact sports such as basketball, ultimate frisbee, soccer or football.
In addition, the City of Shawano has suspended a part of its annual curbside pick-up schedule.
“Yard waste, wood waste and bulky item pickup has been temporally suspended, so we will not be doing that,” said Mayor Ed Whealon.
Whealon says the Spring Cleanup has also been postponed to an undetermined date
“If you remember this is the time that people start cleaning out their garages and basements, well don’t start doing that because we are not going to be picking it up for a while.”
Regular garbage and recycling pickup will continue as normal.
