SURING, WI – A Suring man is doing his part to answer a call for help.
He is helping to organize a drive to make and distribute protective cotton facemasks for healthcare workers due to a shortage.
Donald Diehl says right now they are collecting 100% cotton and elastic.
“Cotton sheets and cotton fitted sheets. The elastic can be used for the earpieces,” he said. “Go through your old sewing kits and find those pieces of elastic that are leftover, we need them.”
The masks need to be made from scratch. Diehl says with the right materials, it is easy to do.
“I have people out here that are sewing, I have ladies from a church group, other people sewing, and I am asking, if you have a sewing machine and you can sew, please dig it out.”
But they need more help. Diehl said he and his wife have been looking for a way that they can help those in need during the Coronavirus pandemic.
“It is something that the Lord has put on my heart and we have prayed for the lord to use us to help others,” Diehl said while hold back tears. ” I get emotional. “My wife loves to do sewing and she said, Honey why don’t I start making some masks.”
From there he started working with a group that calls themselves the Wisconsin Facemask Warriors. They are trying to fill the need to facemasks in large numbers.
“I had one request for a facility in Green Bay that needed over 500,” Diehl said. “I have requests for thousands. Please help.
