Due to developments with COVID-19 and out of an abundance of caution, the City of Shawano and City of Clintonville both announced changes at City Hall.
City of Shawano Mayor Ed Whealon says they have been monitoring updates from the Centers for Disease Control, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, and the Shawano-Menominee Health Department regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Out of respect for the health and safety of the employees and the community, the City of Shawano has decided to close all municipal buildings to the public, effective Monday, March 16, 2020, until further notice.
These buildings include City Hall, Police Department lobby, Recreation Center, Civic Center, Shawano Municipal Utilities, and Public Works offices. All city public meetings will also be canceled until further notice.
Whealon added at this time, it is the intention to maintain all essential/critical city functions with our employees continuing in their normal capacity while working within the facilities closed to the public. Residents will see no change in the level of services provided including public safety (Police/Fire/ambulance),
curbside services, etc. The landfill will remain open to the public during this time; however, all transactions will need to be made with debit or credit card payments – no cash transactions will be accepted.
The senior meal program that is held at the Civic Center will still deliver to those individuals that are already scheduled to be delivered meals. Individuals that typically went to the Civic Center to obtain a meal can still do so, however, it will be for pick up only, with no dine-in option available during this
time.
All residents needing to make real estate tax payments to the City of Shawano or utility payments to Shawano Municipal Utilities can do so by mailing, placing their payments in the drop boxes located outside of these facilities or by utilizing the online payment portals that can be found on the city’s website. Shawano-Bonduel Municipal Court payments can also be made via the City Hall drop box or the online payment option.
For all other transactions including pet licensing, taxi tickets, voter registration, and in-office absentee voting, or any other questions, please contact City Hall at 715-526-6138.
The March 19th and April 9th Shawano-Bonduel Municipal Court dates have been rescheduled. All Shawano appearances have been rescheduled for May 14th and the Bonduel appearances have been rescheduled for April 16th. If payments have already been made, individuals may disregard their
court date, unless it is mandatory.
Clintonville City Hall will be closed to the public beginning Monday, March 16th . City Administrator Sharon Eveland says the decision was made in alignment with recent State and Federal decisions, including Governor Evers’s decision to close all public schools effective March 18th and President Trump’s decision to declare a national emergency.
A decision about whether to extend the closure will be made by Thursday, March 19th.
Payments for utility bills and other invoices can be mailed or placed in the dropbox by the main entrance. The City will place envelopes outside for people to secure payments and well as absentee ballot requests, which can also be put into the dropbox. If someone needs to register to vote or believes they have a critical issue that needs to be addressed, please call (715)823-7600 to discuss before coming to City Hall.
Other restrictions in Clintonville include:
The Community Center will be closed beginning March 18th and will remain closed until at least April 9th, except on election day, which is April 7th. Anyone with reservations during this time should call City Hall to request a refund.
The utility meter change-out program will be postponed until further notice and the City staff will not enter any homes unless it is an emergency situation.
The Library is canceling all programming and meeting room reservations and will be working to make a determination on whether to remain open for patrons. That determination will be made as quickly as possible.
Field offices, such as the Public Works building, will also be closed to the public. Please contact City Hall for appropriate phone numbers.
All other city operations will continue as normal. The City understands the impact of this decision but believes it is in the best interest of the health and welfare of the community and the staff. The City encourages everyone to continue to practice good hygiene, wash hands, wear gloves when pumping gas, and avoid touching the face. Further updates will be provided as quickly as possible should the situation warrant.
