PESHTIGO, WI – An ice water rescue was performed over the weekend in the Town of Peshtigo.
Two people were rescued Saturday afternoon from the ice of Green Bay off Pond Road.
Multiple crews were dispatched after a snowmobile fell through the ice.
The victims were located nearly one mile offshore and one person was still in the water and needed to be rescued by hovercraft. Emergency officials say the warmer weather is melting the ice and people are advised to stay off the ice.
Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve says it would be best for fishermen to wait until next year.
“No fish is worth the risk of loss of life.”
The US Coast Guard also announced that they are starting ice-breaking operations.
