
Peter J. Waubanascum, Sr., age 65 of Keshena, went into the arms of the Lord early Wednesday morning, February 12, 2020, at his home.
Pete was born September 8, 1954, in Keshena, a son of the late John and EdMere (Longley) Waubanascum. He grew up in Neopit and attended St. Anthony Catholic School, and later Shawano High School. Pete entered the U.S. Navy in 1972, and served at the Great Lakes Naval Center in Chicago for four years. In 1976, he was united in marriage to Edwina Lawe in Milwaukee. Following their marriage the couple lived in Milwaukee for several years, moving back to Keshena in 1984. His wife preceded him in death on December 7, 2002.
Peter is a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. He was a huge Elvis Presley fan. Pete was devoted to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, bead work, and was a good cook as well as a clean freak.
Survivors include his five children, Bernadine Raner of Shawano, Peter (Maneesah) Waubanascum, Jr. of Keshena, Paul Waubanascum of Shawano, ReAnnajean Waubanascum of Shawano, and Leah Waubanascum of Keshena; fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edmund and Michael Waubanascum, both of Keshena; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Randy and John Waubanascum; and four sisters, Thelma Neosh, Dorothea Soman, June Ponfil, and Mary Miller.
A Funeral Mass for Peter J. Waubanascum will be celebrated on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. Fr. Nonita Barra will be the Celebrant. Visitation will begin on Thursday, February 13, 2020 after 5:00 PM at the Neopit Community Center, and will continue until the time of Mass on Saturday morning. A Parish Wake Service will be held on Friday evening at 6:00 PM at the Community Center. Military honors will be conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation at the church.
