
Irene F. Maulson, age 83 of Keshena, started her journey to the Spirit World on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at her home.
Irene was born November 21, 1936, in Keshena, a daughter of the late Jerome and Merceline (Kinepoway) Sanapaw. She attended St. Joseph Grade School in Keshena. In 1966, she was united in marriage to Alex D. Maulson, Jr. He preceded her in death on December 3, 2002. Irene was employed by the Menominee Indian School District as a teacher’s aide. She enjoyed dancing, singing, baking bread, and going to the casino. She followed the Pow Wow Trail as the owner and operator of Auntie Ne-Né’s Food Stand.
Survivors include her children, Chris Maulson of Antigo, Dennis (Lorna) Maulson, Sr. of Shawano, Alex (Renata) Maulson III of Keshena, Anna Maulson of Shawano, Arthur Maulson, Sr. of Rochester, MN, Leona Draghi of Keshena, and Jerome Sanapaw of Keshena; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Isabel Cloud, Leona Sanapaw, Barbara Wheelock, and Shelby Kaquatosh; her brother, Jerry Sanapaw; and many nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her son, Gerald Maulson, Sr.; two sisters, Marlene Denny and Patricia Brisk; four brothers, Raymond, Joey, LeRoy, and Bennie Sanapaw; her grandson, Philip Lil’ Bear Boyd; her granddaughter, Leslie Marie Maulson, and her great-granddaughter, Renee Anna Maulson; her son-in-law, Raymond Draghi, Sr.; and her favorite aunt, Ella Madosh.
Traditional Native American services will be held at the Maulson Residence, W3467 Bear Trap Falls Road, Keshena. Visitation will begin at the residence on Friday evening, January 24, 2020 after 6:00 PM. A Feast and Prayer Service will be held at the residence on Saturday evening at 5:00 PM. Visitation will continue until 12:00 PM, Sunday, January 26, 2020, followed by a meal at Neopit Community Center at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
