SHAWANO, WI – Shawano County Sheriff’s Officials say a 49-year-old Green Bay man was injured while para-skiing on the ice on Shawano Lake Wednesday afternoon.
“It appeared that he had some head trauma,” said Deputy Nathan Thornborrow of the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department.
He says the man was awake and un-responsive.
Witnesses fishing on Shawano lake noticed that the man was not moving and contacted 9-1-1.
“Some ice fishermen had seen him on the lake and thought he was just taking a nap or taking a break and after an hour and half of not moving, they went to render aid.”
Officials say the man was on skis and was using a parachute to move.
“He somehow must have crashed when he was performing para-skiing,” Thornborrow said.
It is believed that the man lost control and crashed without colliding into other objects.
“The ice fishermen did the right thing and went to check on him,” Thornborrow added.
He says it would have been nice if they would have went over even earlier to check but is a good example of see something, say something.
