NEW LONDON, WI – The New London Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire in the 300 block of Oshkosh Street late Tuesday afternoon.
The report of heavy black smoke coming from an apartment was phoned in.
Firefighters located a fire in the kitchen of a first floor apartment.
All tenants were already evacuated when crews arrived.
A small dog and cat were rescued.
A church across the street provided shelter.
Smoke damage was found but initial investigations did not find any structural damage.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army are assisting the displaced residents.
It is believed that the fire started near the kitchen stove.
