SHAWANO, WI – Over 30 people jumped into the freezing waters outside of the Lighthouse in Shawano for the 20th annual New Years Day Polar Plunge.
Among the participants was 16-year-veteran Warren Thunder who comes up with a different costume for the plunge each year. Thunder says the water is cold, but it is still fun to do.
“Even if you are just thinking about, just come out to do it.”
It has become a family event for Thunder. His kids and siblings all participate and this year was the first time that his 10-year-old nephew Tristan Lawe made the jump.
“It was probably the worse decision of my life,” Lawe said. When asked if he would do it again, Lawe responded “probably.”
Lawe and his mother Danielle Coffey dressed up as Wayne and Garth from Wayne’s World.
All the participants received a towel and place inside to warm up.
A 20 dollar donation was collected from each and that money will go the Shawano Ski Sharks.
