TOWN OF BIRNAMWOOD, WI – A teen who was attempting to drag a dead deer out of the roadway was struck and killed in Shawano County Thursday evening.
Sheriff officials were called out to County N in the Town of Birnamwood around 5:15 p.m and located a teen lying in a ditch and a man doing chest compressions.
“The reporting party who had struck the pedestrian was performing CPR,” said Sheriff Adam Bieber.
The driver of the vehicle, a 45-year-old Bowler man, told deputies that he could not see the pedestrian.
“There was a curve involved in this and it was dark at this time. That all played a factor we believe,” explained Bieber.
It was also indicated that a vehicle that was parked on the road had headlights that were on bright.
“We do not believe any alcohol or drugs were involved in this accident.”
The pedestrian, a 16-year-old Birnamwood boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say before the fatal crash, the teen hit the deer and stopped his vehicle in the lane of travel.
“The deer was in the middle of the roadway and the victim was outside of his vehicle and in the roadway when he was struck.”
The incident remains under investigation.
