SHAWANO, WI – With the Winter Solstice approaching, tonight becomes a night to remember those who are without shelter.
SAM 25 will gather along with hundreds of other communities nationwide to hold a service to remember those who are fighting the homeless battle.
“On the longest night of the year, it is a really tough time of year for these people, and so we want to recognize those folks and let them know that we have not forgot about them.”
Jen Bisterfeldt is Executive Director SAM 25 in Shawano.
She says the night is also set aside to remember those who have died due to being without a home.
“SAM 25 decided to do the same things a couple of years ago and it is just a really nice service.”
In Shawano, the service is at Old Tabor Church at the Shawano County Historical Society Heritage Park. It begins at 5:30 PM
“Take a moment to remember that not all of us have a place to go.”
She calls the event a somber service, very much like a funeral.
