SHAWANO, WI – Stores have been busy all day Friday as the biggest shopping day of the year hit in full force. For some, Thanksgiving evening was the official kickoff, but for those who decided to wait until Friday morning, some of the chaos may have been avoided.
Sondra Guetschow of Shawano is an experienced Black Friday shopper and says after doing this for years, she notices some differences.
“We never go out on Thanksgiving, that day is reserved for family, but many do and I have noticed fewer people out on Friday morning the last couple of years.
Guetschow says Cyber Monday may also play a role.
“Many people want to just sit at home in their pajamas and shop on their laptop.”
For Guetschow, that is okay with her.
“Shorter lines and more parking is never a bad thing.”
Guetschow does her shopping in Appleton and that is where she spent this Black Friday once again.
“There were fewer people but you still had to wait for checkouts and for parking,” Guetschow said. “If you can’t bring your patience then you may not want to go out on Black Friday because you are going to be waiting either way.
She says one thing that does not change is the chance to score some good deals.
“Some of the deals this year were not as good as they have been in years past, but it was still worth going out.”
The shopping continues for the next few days. Saturday is Small Business Saturday and Monday is Cyber Monday.
