
Emerine G. Kenote –Thompson, age 89 of Keshena, went to heaven on Thursday afternoon, November 28, 2019 at the Wolf River CBRF in Middle Village.
Emerine was born September 3, 1930 in Keshena, a daughter of the late Henry and Gertrude (Peters) Richmond. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and Shawano High School. Following school she moved to Chicago, Illinois. While living in Chicago, Emerine was employed at the Hershey Candy Company. She met her husband, James P. Kenote in Chicago, and the couple was united in marriage. Following their marriage, the couple remained in Chicago until 1956 when they moved back to Keshena. Emerine was a wife and homemaker for many years while raising her children. She was later employed as a worker for the Menominee County Beautification Project in the late 1960’s, and helped to build the Land of the Menominee sign. She also worked at Roberts Electronics in Keshena, and as an aide at the Menominee Indian School District. Her husband, James, preceded her in death in 1972. In April of 1979, Emerine was united in marriage to Ken Thompson. He preceded her in death in February of 1998.
Emerine is a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena, as well as a member of the St. Ann Society. She enjoyed gardening, playing family bingo and cards with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed getting out and socializing with others, and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events. She was an avid Packer fan, and enjoyed taking rides in the car with her sister, Mabel, her friend, Arlene, and her family members.
Survivors include five generations, including her children, Wendell Kenote of Keshena, Patricia (Edwin) Kenote-DePerry of Bayfield, WI, and Thomas H. Kenote of Keshena, and traditionally honored by adoption, Pete (Katherine) Waukechon of Shawano; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Emerine was preceded in death by her son, James Kenote, Jr.; one grandson; eight brothers, Clarence, Alvin, Kelly, Ralph, Henry, Jr., Roy, Harvey, and Gordon; and three sisters, Josephine, Gertrude, and Mabel.
A Funeral Mass for Emerine G. Kenote-Thompson will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena. Fr. Joel Jores will be the Celebrant. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the Fr. David Barrett Hall at St. Michael’s in Keshena after 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 1, 2019, and continue until the time of Mass on Tuesday. A Parish Wake Service will be conducted on Monday, December 2, 2019 at 7:00 at the Hall.
