At 3:16 pm Thursday afternoon, a 9-1-1 call from a deactivated cell phone was received by Waupaca
County Communications Center. The unidentified caller, possibly a juvenile, wanted to report a
crime. When prompted with what type of crime, the caller said a “hostage crime.” and stated “it
happened at Rexford in the auditorium.” Authorities responded to Rexford/Longfellow
Elementary and administration placed staff and students in a classroom hold while the building
was checked by law enforcement and school officials. The building was deemed safe and
regular school activities continued without further interruption.
