Researchers at the University of Wisconsin have found Portage County is one of the worst counties in the state for binge drinking. The report called “The Burden of Binge Drinking in Wisconsin” was released Tuesday. It finds excessive drinking costs Portage County 60-million dollars a year. The county’s rate of binge drinking is five percent above the state average and 13 percent above the national average. A grant from the Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Coalition is funding extra law enforcement officers tasked with responding to alcohol-related incidents.
