The U-S Department of Justice is awarding more than 273-million dollars to improve public safety on American Indian reservations. Five tribal communities in Wisconsin will split five-eight-million dollars in grants. The Bad River Band of Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa is getting one-point-seven-million dollars, Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa will receive 573-thousand dollars, Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa was awarded 900-thousand, Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa will see one-point-nine-five-million, and the St. Croix Chippewa of Wisconsin gets 717-thousand dollars. U-S Attorney Scott Bladder said these grant funds will improve public safety and provide significant assistance to the victims of violent crimes in these tribal communities in the Western District of Wisconsin.
