After a month of intensive training, the Shawano county Sheriff’s department announced that Deputy Madle is a certified Drug Recognition Expert or D.R.E. There are only 303 DRE’s in Wisconsin out of approximately 15,000 Officers. D.R.E’s are used to assist in drug related driving cases which involve a thorough 12 step roadside evaluation to assist the arresting officer and to provide expert opinion as to what drugs people may be using. D.R.E’s can also be used in situations where crimes are committed by suspects under the influence of drugs. Deputy Madle was selected for this training because he as ranked in the top 3 in drug arrests for the past 3 years. He has investigated/assisted in about 75 OWI cases and has over 1100 traffic stops.
D.R.E’s are a great tool in the battle to keep our roadways safe by effectively identifying impaired drivers and taking them off our roadways
