Five Milwaukee pitchers struck out 16 Padre batters Thursday afternoon as the Brewers took the series at Miller Park with a 5-1 decision. The win moved manager Craig Counsell’s team past Chicago and into second place in the National League Central Division. The Cardinals beat the Cubs 5-4 in 10 innings to stay three games ahead of Milwaukee. The Brewers remain one game behind Washington for the first wild-card spot. Lorenzo Cain homered and Frankie Peralta got his seventh win in relief. The Pirates visit Miller Park tonight (Friday) for the start of a three-game series, with Chase Anderson on the mound for Milwaukee.
