The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has scheduled the following maintenance activities for the week of September 16, 2019:
WIS 29, Shawano County-wide
- September 18: Shawano County Highway Department will be sealing bridge end joints on WIS 29 throughout the length of the county. Motorists will encounter mobile lane closures from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m now through September 20. Crews will continue that work on September 23 through September 27.
- WisDOT will be completing soil borings on one bridge and roadway section on WIS 29 westbound at the Wolf River Bridge and WIS 22 interchange. The lane closures for westbound bridge over Wolf River and Roadway Section will begin at 7 a.m. through Tuesday, September 17 at 3 p.m.
- September 17: Shawano County Highway Department will finish applying polymer overlays on two bridges, WIS 29 eastbound & westbound over WIS 55 and WIS 160. Work begins on Tuesday, 6 a.m. through Wednesday, 3 p.m.
WIS 52, Marathon County
- September 18: From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., crews will remove and replace a culvert on WIS 52 east of the intersection at Mill Road in the town of Hogarty. Traffic will be detoured via Marathon County Y to County Z to County Q.
WIS 64, Lincoln County
- September 16-19: Lincoln County Highway Department will be completing routine bridge maintenance on the Wisconsin River Bridge in the city of Merrill. Motorists will encounter a lane closure and temporary signals on WIS 64 at the bridge from 8 a.m. on Monday through Thursday at 4 p.m. Crews will continue this work during the week of September 23.
WIS 107, Marathon County
- On September 16, 2019 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., crews will remove and replace a culvert north of Short Lane Drive, between WIS 29 and Little Chicago. Traffic will be detoured via County U, County O and County A.
Closures and maintenance activities are dependent upon favorable weather conditions and crew availability.

WIS 32 (Ashland Avenue)/Parkview Road Intersection Reconstruction
Location/limits: Parkview Road Intersection with WIS 32
Length of project: 0.3 miles
Cost: $970,000
Construction schedule: June 10, 2019 to September 27, 2019
Description of work: Reconstruct intersection. Re-route west side of Parkview Road 400 feet south of existing location. Change existing west side of Parkview Road into cul-du-sac. Construct slotted left-turn lanes.
September 9 to September 13: Work is occurring in the Ashland median on the lighting system, sidewalk placement, and curb. Tree removal is occurring on the Parkview Road cul-du-sac.
September 16 to September 20: Crews will work in the Ashland median. Work there will include lighting system work, asphalt placement, gravel shoulder placement, pavement marking, sign placement, and topsoil/seeding/restoration. Work will also include grading and gravel placement on the Parkview Road Cul-du-sac.
Traffic Impacts: Ashland Avenue will remain open to traffic, with lane closures, until the project is complete. For a map of the new traffic pattern, please see the project website.

- No left turn from southbound Ashland Ave. to Parkview Road.
- PERMANENT
- No crossing movements or left-turn movements from Parkview Road (both sides).
- Northbound Ashland will use new left-turn bay to access Parkview Road (west).
- Parkview Road closed from Ashland Avenue to new connector road.
- Traffic between Parkview Road (west) and Ashland Ave. will use new connector road.

WIS 172/Fox River Bridge Painting
Location/limits: WIS 172 Bridge over Fox River in the villages of Ashwaubenon and Allouez
Schedule: August 6, 2018 to November 2019
Length of project: 0.75 miles
Cost: $7.833 million
Description of work: Blasting and painting of steel girders under the bridge. Temporary causeway installed in Fox River to allow equipment access to barges.
September 8 to September 13: The contractor is continuing to blast clean and paint the primer coat in spans 12, 13 and 14.
September 16 to September 21: The contractor will finish the blast cleaning and painting of the primer coat in spans 12, 13 and 14, and paint the intermediate and final coats in spans 12 through 14. A second crew will begin working on span 18, which is over Riverside Drive. They will build containment, blast clean and paint the primer coat.
Traffic impacts: One of the two northbound lanes of WIS 57 (Riverside Drive) will have a continuous lane closure beginning on Monday, September 16 and lasting about 4 weeks. Off-peak lane closures on WIS 172 and WIS 57 (Riverside Drive). Continuous shoulder closures on WIS 172 to delineate containment system brackets on the bridge parapets. Flagging operations and various night closures of the Fox River Recreational Trail and Ashwaubenon Recreational Trail directly under the bridge. Boat traffic should be mindful of construction barge traffic and containment systems hanging below the bridge girders.
OCONTO COUNTY
WIS 32 Mountain Resurfacing
Location/limits: WIS 32 from County AA to Parkway Drive in the town of Mountain
Length of project: 4.43 miles
Cost: $4.5 million. All WIS 32 projects under one contract: North Branch Oconto River Bridge Deck overlay, Mountain resurfacing, Mountain to Lakewood resurfacing.
Construction schedule: May 28, 2019 to September 2019
Description of work: This project includes milling and resurfacing with hot mix asphalt pavement, applying pavement marking, and installing centerline and shoulder rumble strips.
September 9 to September 13: Construction complete.
WIS 32 Mountain to Lakewood Resurfacing
Project limits: WIS 32 from County W in the town of Mountain to Big Hill Road in the town of Lakewood
Length of project: 9.46 miles
Cost: $4.5 million. All WIS 32 projects under one contract: North Branch Oconto River Bridge Deck overlay, Mountain resurfacing, Mountain to Lakewood resurfacing.
Construction schedule: May 28, 2019 to September 2019
Description of work: This project includes milling and resurfacing with hot mix asphalt pavement, applying pavement marking, and installing centerline and shoulder rumble strips.
September 9 to September 13: Construction complete.
Peshtigo Brook Wetland Mitigation Site
Location/limits: Along WIS 64 in the towns of Brazeau and Bagley.
Schedule: July 22, 2019 to September 2019
Length: 151 acres of phase 1; 284 acres of phase 3
Cost: $1.4 Million
Description of work: Peshtigo Brook Phase 1 was originally constructed in 2005 and requires modifications by directing more surface water into the site, utilizing shallow excavation in limited areas, and reseeding. The project is also constructing Peshtigo Brook Phase 3, which will restore historic wetlands through shallow excavation, grading, elimination of internal farm ditches, installation of fixed weirs, and seeding. A new culvert will be installed across WIS 64 to facilitate surface water drainage.
September 9 to September 13: The contractor continued excavation and grading of the site, including removal of culvert pipes and filling of internal farm ditches. Seeding was completed in finished areas. A new culvert was installed across WIS 64 to facilitate surface water drainage.
September 16 to September 20: The contractor will continue excavation and grading of the site. Restoration and seeding will continue.
Traffic impacts: Much of the work will be completed in agricultural areas with minimal impact to traffic.
Pensaukee River Bridge Replacement
Project limits: WIS 32 bridge over the Pensaukee River in Krakow
Length of project: On bridge
Cost: $919,000
Construction schedule: August 19, 2019 to November 2019
Description of work: This project will replace the existing structure on WIS 32 over the Pensaukee River with a new bridge and retaining wall. The project will also replace a wing wall on a box culvert and conduct concrete surface repair on another box culvert. Other construction elements under this contract includes excavating, grading, asphalt paving, beam guard, and signage.
September 9 to September 13: The contractor poured the bottom portion of the north abutment, placed riprap, and structural backfill. The contractor will also set the concrete girders.
September 16 to September 20: The contractor will form up for the bridge deck and pour the bridge deck.
Traffic impacts: WIS 32 will be closed at the bridge, and traffic will be detoured. Access to properties will be maintained.
Detour: The detour route for northbound WIS 32 will start at WIS 32 to WIS 29 to WIS 117 to WIS 22 to WIS 32. The detour for southbound WIS 32 will start at WIS 32 to WIS 22 to WIS 117 to WIS 29 to WIS 32.
WINNEBAGO COUNTY
WIS 21 Resurfacing
Location/Limits: WIS 21 from WIS 116 in the city of Omro to the Winnebago/Waushara County line in Winnebago County.
Length of Project: 6.9 miles
Schedule: August 5, 2019 to September 2019
Cost: $1.5 million
Description of work: Work under this contract includes milling and resurfacing of the existing roadway, shoulder gravel, concrete curb and gutter, centerline rumble strips, permanent signing, and pavement marking.
September 9 to September 13: Crews will complete final project cleanup and punchlist items.
September 16 to September 20: Project Complete.
Traffic impacts: WIS 21 will remain open to traffic with flagging operations.
WIS 116, Wolf River Bridge and Approaches
Location/Limits: WIS 116 bridge and approaches in the village of Winneconne
Length of Project: 0.322 miles
Schedule: September 2017 to September 2019
Cost: $11.4 million
Description of work: 2019 work includes construct two new fishing platforms in the location of existing bridge that extend out roughly 220 feet from each river bank. All other work is finished.
September 9 to September 13: Contractor to complete final touches on the fishing platforms before opening to the public, including fishing shelter roofs, finishing electrical receptacles, and final clean-up.
September 16 to September 20: Contractor to complete final touches on the fishing platforms before opening to the public, including fishing shelter roofs, finishing electrical receptacles, and final clean-up.
Traffic impacts: Pedestrian access to the fishing platforms will be closed until all the work surrounding the fishing platforms are completed.
