Some People in Portage are angry that police killed a federally-protected sandhill crane. Two cranes had been damaging property in Portage for several years and one was shot Sunday. Police Chief Ken Manthey says it was a no-win situation because some residents are upset the bird was killed while others were upset their property continued to be damaged and wanted the bird eliminated. One resident offered to catch it and give it to a zoo. Wildlife officials gave police permission to kill the crane.
