Raddant Fends Off Anvelink For First Late Model Win
By Scott Owen
Shawano,WI,8/10/19—Late Model rookie, Kyle Raddant looked like a veteran in fending off the charges
of Late Model stalwart Nick Anvelink en route to his first career Late Model feature win. Lucas
Lamberies returned to his early season form with his third IMCA Modified win of the season. The IMCA
Stock Car feature was again a real barn burner as Dan Michonski and Trent Nolan swapped the lead back
and forth with Michonski eventually winning his fifth feature of the season. Kevin Bethke scored his first
IMCA Sport Mod win in nearly two seasons. While Grant Kastning returned to victory lane for his first
win this year in the Mighty Four division.
Kyle Raddant utilized his outside row one starting position to take the lead at the start of the Late Model
feature. Raddant received early pressure from Chris Engels before Ron Berna moved to second and
began to pester Raddant. A restart on lap four had Berna and Nick Anvelink lineup right on Raddant’s
rear bumper. Raddant ran in the high groove of the track and continued to lead. Anvelink soon passed
Berna and set his sights on Raddant. On lap 9 Anvelink pulled to the inside of Raddant, but he could not
complete a pass. Anvelink would not go away though and continued to pressure Raddant. Behind the
leaders, Berna and Swedberg raced side by side for third. Over the last six laps Anvelink tried lap after
lap to find a way by Raddant. The pair were door to door on multiple occasions. Raddant would not be
denied though as he scored his first career Late Model feature win. Anvelink, Swedberg, Berna, and
Engels rounded out the top five.
Alex Roffers took the lead at the start of the IMCA Modified feature before losing the handle on lap 3
sending him to the tail of the field. Mark Weisnicht took over the lead on lap 3, but he would only stay
there for two laps as Lucas Lamberies flew into the lead on lap 5. A rash of late of late race caution flags
brought the race to an early end with Lamberies, Jerry Wilinski, Weisnicht, Konnor Wilinski, and Kevin
Feck making up the top five.
The IMCA Stock Car feature saw Kurt Olson take the lead on lap 1. Olson was still in the lead on lap 5 as
his machine erupted in flames heading down the backstretch ending his night. Olson was okay after the
incident. Vern Stedjee then took over the lead. Trent Nolan moved underneath Stedjee to take the lead
though on lap 5. Dan Michonski took a turn in the lead on lap 6, but Nolan powered right back to the
front on lap 7. As Nolan led, Michonski continued to race in his slipstream while Shawn Wagner and
Nate Michonski raced for third. Dan Michonski pulled to the inside of Nolan to take the lead on lap 15,
but again Nolan took the lead right back on lap 16. Nolan led lap 17 as Wagner moved to the inside to
challenge for the lead. Dan Michonski grabbed the lead back on lap 18. Michonski, Nolan, and Wagner
raced in close quarters as the white flag flew. The trio went three-wide on the final lap with Michonski
eventually prevailing over Nolan, Wagner, Nate Michonski, and Travis VanStraten.
Karah Taycher led the early stages of the IMCA Sport Mod feature before Kevin Bethke took over on lap
6 of the race. Bethke would continue to lead as Brock Saunders moved to second on the track.
Saunders kept Bethke within reach but could not muster a pass as Bethke went on to score his first win
of the year. Matthew Radtke, Jordan Bartz, and Dylon Waldvogel completed the top five.
In Mighy Four action, Grant Kastning went wire to wire for the feature win. Kastning was followed
across the line by Kevin Bice, Lucas Hacker, Jason Stueck, and Tanner Westphal.
Racing continues next Saturday with a 6:00 start time as the season begins to wind down. It will be
backpack night for the kids. All five divisions will be in action with the addition of the local Street Stocks
also. More information can be found online at www.shawanocountyfair.net.
