The Shawano Police Department received information Monday morning that a man contacted a local church and provided a story that he needed money for gas to get to a hospital to see a family member. The church was familiar with the man due to their prior history with him and denied his request for money. The man is known to provide multiple names and stories relative to needing money to get to a hospital due to a recent family member’s accident, death, birth of a child, etc. We feel this attempt for money is not legitimate. If anyone has concerns about someone soliciting money you should call the police department.
