Federal officials have told people attending a public hearing in Minnesota that they no longer consider gray wolves to be endangered. The government will weigh the testimony offered in Brainerd as it decides whether to remove the gray wolves from the endangered and threatened species list. Some conservationists say the move is premature. While there had been a rebound in the Wisconsin population, they haven’t fully recovered across their historic range. The wolves were first protected 45 years ago.
