
Robert C. “Quill” Chevalier, age 68 of Neopit, started his spiritual journey home on Thursday, June 13, 2019, in Wittenberg, Wisconsin
Quill was born in Keshena on July 18, 1950, to Melvin and Jeanette (Tourtillott) Chevalier. He graduated from Fox Lake High School. On April 7, 1984, he married Connie “Pitahpun” Warrington.
In his early years, Quill worked for AIM and was an activist for Native American Rights. Later, he trained and worked in the construction business with his father, Melvin, and Kenny Warrington, Raymond and Issa Fish, and Felix Breutte. He also worked as a carpenter and mason for Tradewell Company in Antigo.
Like others, Quill spent time fishing, watching the Packers, going to the casino, attending Pow-Wows, and having a good time with his family and friends. He spent a lot of time playing and hanging out with his grandchildren. Quill attended many of the Native American Rights movements, such as Wounded Knee, Novitiate, and the Longest Walk to Washington, DC.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Connie; his children Chris “Anwaiwaiska” Warrington, Sr., Beatrice “Sawanoquay (Micah Johnson) Chevalier, Antoine “Maskanewnah (Natasha) Chevalier, Carl Pocan, and Amber “Waupenokew” Chevalier; grandchildren, Chris “Awahsisaeh” Warrington, Jr., Gabrielle Warrington, Devon Skenadore, Marcus Skenadore, Faith Teller, Niko Pocan, Serenity Pocan, Zella Tepiew, Dienekes Tepiew, Micah Johnson, CJ Walks Easily, Quardell Chevalier, Bailey Chevalier, Bianca Chevalier, Ceyonna Chevalier, Alyssa “Ahkenaepowaetukiw” Waukau, Payton “Osawahmukuaqtukew” Pocan, and Jody Pocan, Jr.; and his great-grandchild, Bentley Demerath. Hi is further survived by his siblings, Wanda, Apesanahkwat, Virgil, Arnold, Gary, Randy, and Cindy Chevalier. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Bernadette, Warren, Christopher, and Donald Chevalier.
Traditional Native American services for Robert C. Chevalier will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Doreen Grignon residence, N2054 Nahkoh St. (Hickory St.) “Middle Village” Neopit, WI 54150. Visitation will begin on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at 4:00 PM at the Grignon residence and continue until the service on Tuesday.
