North Central Region Road Construction Update #13
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) provides weekly road construction updates for counties in North Central Wisconsin: Adams, Green Lake, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Oneida, Portage, Price, Shawano, Vilas, Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood.
The following updates are for the week of June 17, 2019. Construction schedules are dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.
Marathon County
Highway: County WW (Local Project)
Location: Wisconsin River Bridge, Brokaw (Village of Maine)
Schedule: April 22, 2019 to May 22, 2020
Traffic impacts: Due to inclement weather, pouring of concrete and the full closure previously scheduled for June 14-17 has been delayed until June 21. Traffic is still maintained on a single lane, 10.5 feet in width, on the existing bridge with temporary traffic signals.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Contractors will continue to prepare bridge for concrete pouring.
Marquette County
Highway: WIS 22
Location: Main & Montello Streets, 5th Street to N Junction WIS 23
Schedule: April 30, 2019 – July 2019
Traffic Impacts: Pier work on the Montello and Fox River bridges begin on June 17. Motorists can expect to encounter periodic flagging operations that will temporarily close a single lane over both bridges at times during this work.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Scour mitigation work is planned for the center pier of the Montello River and Fox River bridges.

Highway: WIS 23
Location: City of Montello
Schedule: April 15th, 2019 to November 15th, 2019
Traffic impacts: WIS 23 is closed from West Street to Lake Street. Lake Street and WIS 23 intersection is closed. Maps of local detours are posted at the website below.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Crews will pour curb and gutter, pour concrete for outfall basin, complete excavation for outfall basin (weather permitting), final grading and seeding of outfall basin (weather permitting) and begin water main and sanitary sewer work at intersection of Lake Street and WIS 23.

Oneida County
Highway: US 51
Location: Between Minocqua Bridge to Lakeshore Drive in Downtown Minocqua
Schedule: This project has been completed.
Traffic impacts: Traffic control will be removed by end of day on June 14.
Highway: US 8 and WIS 47 intersection
Location: City of Rhinelander
Schedule: June 10, 2019 to October 18, 2019
Traffic impacts: Flagging operations, single lane and shoulder closures. Project detour is anticipated to begin on June 24.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Traffic control preparation for the detour route. The detour route will also be prepped with asphalt milling, replacement and patching as well as gravel placement on the detour route shoulders.

Oneida & Vilas Counties
Highway: US 51
Location: 3rd Avenue to Tuckaway Drive
Schedule: Spring 2018 to November 2019
Traffic impacts: US 51 will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction between WIS 47 and Trapp Road. Traffic on US 51 will be restricted to a 12-foot maximum width. Motorists should expect to encounter occasional flagging operations. Motorists are encouraged to consider using WIS 47 as an alternate route to avoid delays at peak tourist travel times.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Crews will pave asphalt roadway, terrace, driveways and parking lots. Crews will apply permanent pavement markings.

Portage County
Highway: Business 51
Location: Mac Arthur Way – Minnesota Avenue
Schedule: March 18, 2019 to Spring 2020
Traffic impacts: An updated list impacts for the week of June 17 is available at the website below on the Traffic Impacts & Schedule tab.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week. Crews will:
- Continue work on the local utility facilities on Tommy’s Turnpike
- Work to complete the concrete terrace from Beech Street to Minnesota Avenue on the east side of Business 51
- Work to complete the sidewalk on County HH from Lower Whiting Park to Locust Street
- Work to install the curb and gutter on Elm, Willow and Cedar Streets on the east side of Business 51
- Work to install the curb and gutter for the cul-de-sacs on Beech and Locust Street
- Work to complete the installation of the remaining driveways on the east side of Business 51 on County HH

Waupaca County
Highway: WIS 22 bridges
Location: Wautoma – Clintonville, at bridges over:
(1) South Branch of the Little Wolf River
(2) Crystal River and
(3) Wisconsin Central Ltd. (CN) RR tracks
Schedule: May 14th, 2019 to August 2nd, 2019
Traffic impacts: Northbound lane closures on all three bridges. WIS 22 will remain open to traffic in both directions. Traffic will be controlled with flaggers and temporary traffic signals.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Crews plan to perform more prep work for bridge three deck pour. Asphalt paving is tentatively scheduled with a traffic switch tentatively scheduled for the end of next week.
Highway: WIS 156
Location: WIS 22 to Shawano County Line
Schedule: June 10, 2019 – September 2019
Traffic impacts: WIS 156 will remain open to a minimum of one lane of traffic at all times. Temporary traffic signals will be used on the bridge over the Wolf River.
Anticipated work schedule for next week: The contractor will finish installing containment, begin removal of the existing paint, and start repainting girders on the WIS 156 Wolf River Bridge.
