The Wisconsin Department of Justice coordinated a Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative throughout Wisconsin Saturday…and Shawano County resident’s responded.
In a new release from the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department, the office said:
“The good news is we increased intake in all three area’s;
Bonduel – 30.65 lbs
Stockbridge – 20.15 lbs
West Hwy – 14.10 lbs
The sheriff’s Office also took in about 15lbs over the weekend in our drug box. Overall we have collected 236.55lbs since the first of the year and 358.30lbs since last fall.”
The amount taken in over the weekend was double that of what was turned in last year.
. The Prescription Drug Take-Back Day goal is to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal of prescription medications, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications. Unused prescription medications in homes create a public health and safety concern, because they can be accidentally ingested, stolen, misused, and abused.
