
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) provides weekly road construction updates for counties in North Central Wisconsin: Adams, Green Lake, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Oneida, Portage, Price, Shawano, Vilas, Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood. Construction schedules are dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.
Forest County
Project Name: Crandon Bridge Maintenance
Highway: WIS 32/WIS 55
Location: Crandon, Forest County
Schedule: Construction of the expansion device replacement is completed. Polymer overlays will be applied May 17th.
Traffic impacts: All traffic control devices removed from project. Single lane closures with flagging for the polymer overlay operations May 17th.
Work completed since last update: Completed Stage 2 removal/replacement of the expansion device. Crews also cleaned decks and applied pigmented surface sealer to the parapets.
Anticipated work schedule for next week: N/A Work on this project is complete until May 17th.
Marathon County
Project Name: Wisconsin River Bridge, Brokaw
Highway: County WW
Location: Brokaw (Village of Maine)
Schedule: April 22, 2019 to May 22, 2020
Traffic impacts: Stage 1: Traffic will be maintained on a single lane, 10.5 feet in width, on the existing bridge with temporary traffic signals. Half of the bridge deck will be removed and constructed.
Work completed since last update: Project started April 22nd. Temporary Traffic control signals were installed as well as temporary concrete barriers.
Anticipated work schedule for next week: Contractor will layout and begin deck removal.
Marquette County
Project Name: WIS 23, City of Montello
Highway: WIS 23
Location: City of Montello
Schedule: April 15th, 2019 to November 15th, 2019
Traffic impacts: Occasional short-term flagging for equipment unloading. WIS 23 is planned to be closed starting May 6 and will be detoured for non-local traffic. Maps of local routes can be found at the website below.
Work completed since last update: Erosion control was installed at the outfall pond location. Staking for the outfall pond was completed and excavation on the outfall pond.
Anticipated work schedule for next week: Continue excavation of the outfall pond. Install PCMS for advanced notice to close WIS 23.

Oneida & Vilas Counties
Project Name: US 51, Woodruff/Arbor Vitae
Highway: US 51
Location: 3rd Avenue to Tuckaway Drive
Schedule: Spring 2018 to November 2019
Traffic impacts: US 51 will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction between WIS 47 and Trapp Road. Traffic on US 51 will be restricted to a 12-foot maximum width. Motorists should expect to encounter occasional flagging operations.
Work completed since last update: Crews completed storm sewer installation for this stage. Crews completed cutting subgrade and placing base aggregate for this phase. Crews placed the new curb & gutter and placed wiring and bases for the new street lights.
Anticipated work schedule for next week: Crews will pour the new sidewalk and may begin asphalt paving.

Portage County
Project Name: Village of Whiting, Post Road
Highway: Business 51
Location: Mac Arthur Way – Minnesota Avenue
Schedule: March 18, 2019 to Spring 2020
Traffic impacts: The intersection of Elm Street and Business 51 will remain closed until approximately 5-1-19 so installation of underground facilities can be completed. The intersection of Willow Street and Business 51 should re-open by April 29. The intersection of Cedar Street and Business 51 is scheduled to be closed April 29 for installation of underground facilities. Traffic on County HH has been reduced to one lane in each direction between Lower Whiting Park and School Avenue. All traffic on County HH has been moved to the existing westbound lanes. Traffic on Business 51 has been reduced to one lane in each direction between Mac Arthur Way and Minnesota Avenue. All traffic on Business 51 has been shifted to the existing southbound lanes. Pedestrian traffic has been detoured on the east side of Business 51 where temporary sidewalk has been constructed between Business 51 and School Avenue. Pedestrians will utilize School Avenue between Porter Court and County HH. Pedestrians will utilize the sidewalk on the north side of County HH from Lower Whiting Park to School Avenue while the south side is reconstructed. Detour signs have been installed along the pathway that is intended to be used.
Work completed since last update: Crews have completed the pavement removal between County HH and Minnesota Avenue. Crews have completed pouring the new section of bridge deck over McDill Pond.
Anticipated work schedule for next week: Crews will continue installing the new storm sewer system between County HH and Cedar Street. Crews will continue work on the new water services between County HH and Porter Road. Crews will continue working on the bridge over McDill Pond.

Wood County (NEW)
Project Name: WIS 97, Central Avenue
Highway: WIS 97
Location: Between Arnold street and Harrison street, city of Marshfield
Schedule: May 1, 2019 to August 29, 2019
Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect to encounter one lane traffic in each direction on WIS 97 between Arnold Street and Harrison Street. Crews will be working on the inside travel lanes of WIS 97 between Arnold Street and Harrison Street. Pedestrian access to businesses and schools will be maintained during construction.
Work completed since last update: Preconstruction and Public Information Meeting was held on Wednesday, April 24th. Rent-A-Flash installed fixed message signs for on street parking restrictions during construction. Riverside Land Surveying began construction staking on project.
Anticipated work schedule for next week: Temporary traffic signals will be installed at Arnold Street and Doege Street. Riverside Land Surveying will continue to perform necessary construction staking.
