There are still many details to be worked out, but city officials in Rhinelander say a former pet food company warehouse might be an ideal location for the county highway department. The 170-thousand square foot warehouse used to process thousands of pet supply orders each day for customers of Doctors Foster and Smith — before the company was bought out by Petco, then the Wisconsin operation was shut down. Kwik Trip offered more than two-million dollars to buy the current home of the highway department five years ago. It isn’t known if that deal is available and the city also doesn’t know what Petco wants for the empty building.
