Shawano Area Writers is pleased to announce that Susan Engebrecht has agreed to deliver the keynote address to students, parents, and members of the public attending the 2019 Shawano Area Writers George Putz Jr. Memorial Student Writing Contest awards ceremony. The awards will be presented at 1:00 p.m. on May 19th at the Mielke Arts Center in Shawano. Susan Engebrecht has written articles and essays for inspirational and environmental magazines as well as anthologies which include Chicken Soup for the Soul. Her columns have appeared on-line and in newspapers such as the Wausau Daily Herald. To help her speak in front of groups or on radio and TV drove her to join Toastmasters where mentors helped unravel the knots in her tongue. Toastmasters pushed her to enter speech contests where she won trophies that stand on a shelf next to certificates from writing awards, including the Wisconsin Writers Association’s Jade Ring. Susan has served on the board of the WWA and is also director and an instructor for the Green Lake Writers Conference.
