The Environmental Protection Agency reports toxic chemical releases were up by five percent in 2017, the most recent year measured. Despite that, environmental advocates say the state has made a lot of improvement over the last decade. Wisconsin industrial facilities have cut their emissions by half during that period of time. They reported 360-million pounds of chemical waste was a byproduct of production in the most recent report. Releases into the state’s waterways were cut by 29 percent over the last 10 years.
