The Department of Natural Resources is ready to help people with trouble removing ice shanties from frozen lakes.
Wardens say they’ve taken calls from people who have shanties that are frozen in place in several inches of slush. They say some lakes are covered in thick snow. While there isn’t enough time for the DNR to modify laws requiring people to remove their shanties on a particular date, the agency may use discretion in cases where owners are working toward removing their shanties.
All shanties must be removed from Shawano Lake
by Sunday, March 3.
If you’re having trouble meeting the removal deadline, you’re asked to call the department’s hotline at 1-800-TIP-WDNR or 1-800-847-9367.
The information you provide would be passed on to a local conservation warden.
