Rudy was born December 30, 1920 in the Town of Richmond, a son of the late Albert and Anna (Sperberg) Buettner. He attended the Forest School for eight years. Following school he worked on the old Wendorf Farm. On May 12, 1945 he was united in marriage to the former Eleanor J. Schuster at St. Paul Lutheran Church – Stony Hill. The couple lived and farmed in the Town of Richmond until they retired in 1985. Eleanor preceded him in death on April 22, 2006.
Rudy was baptized and confirmed at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in the Town of Richmond. When he married Eleanor, he became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church – Stony Hill. He served on various church boards and committees. Rudy also served on the Board of Directors for the Shawano Equity Co-op. He enjoyed deer hunting. Even after his retirement Rudy continued to stay active on the farm.
Survivors include his three children, Brian (Diane) Buettner of Waupaca, Bruce Buettner of the Town of Richmond, and Don (Mary) Buettner of Rochester, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Brenda (Gary) Mainz of Greenville, Craig (Margo) Buettner of Mequon, Michaeline (Joseph) Martin of Des Moines, Iowa, Matthew Buettner of Baltimore, Maryland, Danielle Buettner of Des Moines, Iowa, and Joshua Buettner of Ames, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Lena, Cole, and Aria Buettner; his brother, Charles (Eileen) Buettner of the Town of Richmond; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Rudy was preceded in death by five brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral services for Rudolph Buettner will be held on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church – Stony Hill in the Town of Richmond. Pastor John Eyer will officiate. Interment will be at the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin on Sunday, February 17, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Visitation will continue on Monday morning at the church from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers and plants the family prefers memorials be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church – Stony Hill in Rudy’s name.
