Stevens Point state representative Katrina Shankland says she’s hoping a proposal to force big retailers to pay taxes on their stores as if they’re operating stays in the state budget. Shankland says that the ‘dark store loophole’ encourages big retailers to file suits against cities to lower their own taxes. The loophole elimination would still need to be debated on and kept in the budget by the legislature. Shankland is hopeful it will remain in the budget.
