Donald L. “Mucka” LeRoy, Sr., age 61 of L’Anse, Michigan, formerly of Neopit, passed away unexpectedly and started his journey to the Spirit World on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Baraga County Hospital in Baraga, Michigan.
Mucka was born February 28, 1957 in Keshena, a son of the late Kennedy and Mary (Dickie) LeRoy. He served in the United States Navy, and following his service he was employed as a truck driver. While he was coming up, he was a well-known boxer around the reservation. He loved fishing, dancing, listening to Elvis Presley, working on cars, and caring for his grandkids. Mucka loved his four children and his grandchildren unconditionally.
Survivors include his wife, Brigitte. R. LeRoy of L’Anse, Michigan; his loving children, Desmond Waukau of Neopit, Donald “DJ” LeRoy, Jr. of Keshena, Harriet “Rose” (Anthony Wakatani) LeRoy of Zoar, Tiana (Jay Jay) LeRoy of Appleton, and Roberta “Sici” (Alex Cancel) LeRoy of Green Bay; his step-children, Ronald (Tammy) Sagataw and Bradley Sagataw both of Escanaba, Michigan; his special grandson, Jolanzo “BooBoo” LeRoy; 23 grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Merlin LeRoy, Lena Smart, Arvella LeRoy, Allen LeRoy, and Sherry LeRoy; the mother of his children, Michelle “Dumpy” Waukau LeRoy; his Godson, Andy James; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Evelyn, Marilyn, Marcella, and Kathy LeRoy; and his step-daughter, Sabrina Sagataw Sizemore.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. Fr. Joel Jores will be the Celebrant. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation at the church. Interment will take place at the Red Springs Cemetery, Town of Red Springs in the spring. Visitation will begin at the Neopit Community Center after 4:00 PM on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 and continue until the time of service on Thursday. A Parish Wake Service will be conducted Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the Community Center.
