State Representative Gary Tauchen will remain in the 6th Assembly District, after more than doubling the number of votes of his opponent William Switalla. Tauchen finished with just under 19,000.
Tauchen, who has held his seat since 2006, was present at Mike Gallagher’s watch party, which celebrated many Republican victories on the night. Tauchen believes many voters want to see a shift in philosophy, starting from the top-down.
“People are really turning a little bit more conservative and they want to see government a little bit smaller, more market orientated on the health care systems, and I think people that people really pull together,” said Tauchen. “They want to make sure the country is going in the right direction, and they felt it was time for a change.”
The State Assembly, where Republicans were already the majority party, increased that total, and while Tauchen says their agenda is no walk in the park, it sure does make it easier being the controlling party.
“It really is a wave that is carrying us in Wisconsin too. It’s also tougher in some ways for leadership to pull the team together, so it’s challenging no matter what, but it makes it a lot easier moving our agenda forward when we have such a strong majority.”
With the election season coming to a close, Tauchen took pride that he and Switalla ran a campaign that was clean, compared to some of the larger races.
“It’s really good that we had a race like that,” said Tauchen of his race with Switalla. “It was nice that we both were positive people, and I’m glad of course that I retained my position. I look forward to working next session to improve people’s lives in the state of Wisconsin and expand the opportunities that we have here.”
In Tauchen’s time in office, he is the Ranking Member of the Assembly Committee on Renewable Energy and Rural Affairs, serves on the Committee on Agriculture, and the Committee on Workforce Development.
