A state crime lab could not detect any controlled substances on candy and wrappers turned in after the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, police said Tuesday. New London Police had three pieces of candy tested — a Tootsie Roll that gave someone numbness and a rash, an orange Tootsie Roll with a dark spot on it and a Twix wrapper with residue that also gave someone symptoms. Police won’t investigate further as they have no evidence that a crime was committed. In the days following the St. Patrick’s Day celebration, New London Police recommended people throw out the candy collected at the parade because of the reports of possibly tainted candy.
