Amid the first snowfall of the season, veterans were honored over the weekend to commemorate Veterans Day. A wreath was placed on the memorial in front of the Shawano County Courthouse. Sheriff Adam Bieber was the mainspeaker, he praised all veterans including his grandfather and father who fought in World War II and Vietnam respectively. In Clintonville, Lt. Colonel Christina (Ret.) Flannagan spoke at a ceremony. She served for 29 years in the US Army before retiring in 2010. Later on Flannagan talked about Veterans Day and how it’s changed over the years:
“Well I feel that now a days folks don’t honor it like they should. You know, twenty years ago, people were more involved with Veterans Day. I think the younger generation should pay a little more respect to veterans because they’re using their i phones and i pads and everything electronically but they need to get out there and appreciate the veterans that have gone to Iraq, Afghanistan, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, obviously the veterans that are still alive from World War II and appreciate what veterans do.”
